Description
Following Nelly Schaub’s Special Prize of the Kiefer Hablitzel | Göhner Art Award 2025, Rebuts de refrain was published on the occasion of her exhibition at Kunsthaus Biel Centre d’art Bienne. Conceived as a multi-part boxed edition, it brings together drawings, photographs, texts, printed ephemera and sound.
At its centre are works by Nelly Schaub, accompanied by exhibition photographs by Thalles Piaget, newly commissioned texts by Pauline Coquart, Kairaan Kika and Deborah-Joyce Holman, and a bilingual edition of McKenzie Wark’s essay Trap Metaphysics (Métaphysique de la trap), translated into French by Nicolas Garait·Leavenworth. The publication is presented throughout in French and English.
A poster designed by Philippa Schmitt completes the publication. Each copy includes a download card for the sound work I’m not dead (2026, 05:25), while the special edition additionally contains a square picture disc featuring the same recording.
Developed in close collaboration between Nelly Schaub, Nicolas Garait·Leavenworth and Philippa Schmitt, Rebuts de refrain treats publishing as an extension of artistic practice. Rather than documenting the exhibition, the different printed and sonic components constitute a work in their own right.
